The Violin Tenors

The Violin Tenors are a group of three classically trained tenors with a Violinist. The Violin Tenors are based in Gauteng. The members of the violin tenors are Khotso, Dikgang, Rheinaldt and Bernard. The intention of the Violin Tenors is in bringing top quality musical performances for the South African and international audiences . The Violin Tenors have a repertoire of great South African classics, Opera music, Jazz music, Classical songs and Musicals. The Violin Tenors are a new era group, with the Violin as part of the vocal line. The Violin tenors have an amazing vocal group [Kgotso, Rheinaldt and Dikgang] that blend wonderful rich voices and harmonies.

Khotso
This tenor is based in Bloemfontein. His former singing teacher, Mr. W. Theunissen, referred him to the management of the Black tie Ensemble. Khotso's accomplishments are as follows:

  • Performed for the Black Tie Ensemble. Khotso sang the roles of Count Almaviva “Ilbarbier di sivglia”, Arturo “Lucia di Lammermoor”.
  • In 2005, Khotso was invited by the Department of Arts and Culture to perform in Japan. Khotso performed in Nagoya at the AICHI WORLD EXPO and in Tokyo at the South African Embassy.
  • Performed at the 9th International Investment Council meeting hosted by former President Mr Thabo Mbeki.

Rheinaldt
This vibrant young tenor comes from Vryburg. Rheinhaldt enrolled at the Opera School at the Pretoria Technikon.

  • 2003: Joined The Black Tie Ensemble.
  • 2004: The department of Arts and Culture sent him to Austria - performing in Graz and Vienna.
  • 2005: The Department of Arts and Culture invited him to perform in Japan. He performed in Nagoya at the AICHI world Expo 2005, as well as in Tokyo at the South African Embassy. He sang the role of Rinuccio in Puccinis Gianni Schicchi to critical acclaim.
  • 2005: He performed at the 9th International Investment Council Meeting hosted by President T Mbeki.
  • 2006: Rheinaldt sang the role of Monostatos in Mozart’s Zauberflote. He also sang the role of Tebaldo in Opera Africas’s production of Bellini’s I Capuleti E I Montechi. He Performed the role of King Solomon in Opera Africa’s Production of Princess Magogo by Professor Khumalo in Oslo, Norway.

Dikgang
Based in Bloemfontein, he was introduced to Opera and studied with Mr W Theunissen. He later performed in many Operas with the Black Tie Ensemble.

  • 2004: Performed La Boheme.
  • 2005: Performed Gianni Schicchi, the Barber of Seville, and Lucia Di Lammermoor.
  • 2006: Performed Le Lisir Damore.
  • 2008: Dikgang performed at the Royal Livingston Hotel in Zambia for the BTE.

Bernard
He is the Violinist for the violin tenors. Bernard started playing the Violin in Ga-Rankuwa. Bernard has played and currently plays for the following:

  • The Chamber Orchestra of South Africa.
  • The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra.
  • The Johannesburg Music Initiative.
  • The Gauteng Symphony Orchestra.
